about updates

There will not be any travel stories for a while. But keep checking the update page for pictures! The stories will come - eventually...
Just so you know I'm eating. This is a typical breakfast for me. A sandwich made of raisin bread, peanut butter & cheese. Yummy. A bowl of cereal, without milk, of course. Orange juice, a banana, an apple, and yes, that is cake - but I don't have it everyday.
The beach in Glenelg, the end of our Melbourne to Adelaide adventure. The next day I left everyone in Glenelg and drove all the way back to Melbourne.

The view from the roof-top lounge of the YHA hostel, where I stayed for most of my time in Melbourne.
The view from my room at All Nations hostel, where I stayed the last week before I left Melbourne.

The Twelve Apostles & the Big WOW!

If you ever visit Victoria, you'll know that the Great Ocean Rd is the must do activity and the Twelve Apostles is the must see natural wonder.
This is supposed to make you go WOW! Amaaazing!
Well....not really. After 3 days of rugged coastlines on the Great Ocean Road, this just was not that spectacular.

Some old canon in some town.
This is a lighthouse.
This is my shadow on the wall of the lighthouse.

Accident, loss & koalas

It was a somber afternoon. While everyone was in the car waiting for Frank & I to return from further exploring the Erskine Falls area, Bjorn accidentally erased all the photos from his camera.
This is not our car, but could have been. The road is very curvy. There was even a sign that said "Accident Area next 30 km".
I did get tired driving and started to nod off. So I pulled off onto the side of the road, and there we saw our first koalas!

The bay at some sleepy town on the Great Ocean Road.

The Great Ocean Road

Best picture I could take while driving, in the rain, without a display on my camera.
Erskine Falls
Erskine Falls again
It doesn't look like it, but the log is about 4 feet off the ground and I am struggling to keep my balance and smile for the camera. Ok, balance won out over smiling.
Another waterfall down stream from Erskine.

Surfers on Parade

When we were on Phillip Island, we paid $19 to see penguins on parade. As the sun set, we watched the penguins come out of the water, gather into groups, then walk across the beach to their borrows in the vegetated area. Then we got to watch them mate shamelessly. But we were not allowed to take any pictures. So instead you get some pictures of surfers.
Oh look, there're lots of them!

Harold Holt's Memorial

It turns out that the reason we were on the Mornington Peninsula, was because Bjorn had heard of the Prime Minister that drowned there and wanted to see the site & memorial. This is what Bjorn saw.

Don't tell Bjorn that this is what I saw. Lena told me not to tell him about it because we wanted to get out of the park and away from the flies.

More Pictures from Mornington Peninsula

Rugged coastline.
Sitting in solitude, not talking to anyone.
Was this London Bridge?
This national park has the most flies per cubic meter of anywhere I have ever been!
There used to be some kind of military lookout here.

We don't know where we are or where we are going to sleep, thanks to the wonderful navigational skills of my German friends. :-) Oh, wait, that was a different night when we were a couple hundred kilometers from where we thought we were. On this night we knew where we were, there just wasn't anywhere to stay.
We slept in the car on the side of the road. The next night we rented a house! Here is a friend I made in the morning.
The car was parked several meter from here.
There was supposed to be some formation called London Bridge, but I don't think we saw it.
too cold to swim
